The Bavarian Philologist Association (bpv), based in Munich, is a professional association of teachers at grammar schools , technical colleges , vocational colleges and universities in Bavaria . As an interest group, it represents the professional, school and educational policy interests of its members.

tasks and goals

The statute states as its tasks:

  • representing and promoting the professional and economic interests of its members
  • dealing with all matters relating to the profession
  • influencing the design of the education system
  • the issuing of publications.

In terms of content, the most important goals of the association are comparable to those of the German Association of Philologists and include:

  • the maintenance and networking of the multi-tier school system
  • quality assurance in high school education, especially the central high school diploma
  • the creation of performance-based regulations on salaries and promotions
  • the general improvement in recruitment and working conditions
  • ensuring a qualified and school-specific teacher training

history

The association has existed in its current form since February 7, 1949. The choice of the name is based on the self-image of the members as philologists , whereby the term philologist is to be understood in the literal sense as a lover of reason and does not refer to the linguistic subjects limited.

The association of teachers at Bavarian universities , which was founded in 1863 and which has been known as the Bavarian High School Teachers' Association since the introduction of the uniform nine-level grammar school in Bavaria in 1892, can be seen as the nucleus of the association . In terms of content (and in the early years also in terms of personnel), today's association is in continuity with the Association of Bavarian Philologists and the State Faculty of Teachers at Higher Schools in Bavaria (until 1935). In the meantime, ie during the period of National Socialism , or were the teachers' associations -gewerkschaften the National Socialist Teachers League into line , according to the Bavarian Philologenverband was forbidden at that time.

The association was (re) established in its current form in 1949 by Karl Bosl ; Bosl was first chairman until 1954, then honorary chairman. He had been a member of the NSDAP and the SA since 1933, a member of the Nazi teachers' association since 1934, and later also other National Socialist organizations. Classified as "exonerated" in 1948, doubts arose in 2011 about this assessment, which is why his role and work in the association and in the public are still controversial today . After the association first awarded a Karl Bosl medal to Hans Maier ( Bavarian Minister of Education from 1970 to 1986) in 2009, he decided not to award the medal after the allegations became known.

Partners and competition

The association is organized together with some Bavarian teacher associations, namely the Bavarian Realschullehrerverband , the Katholische Erziehergemeinschaft Bayern and the association of teachers at vocational schools in Bavaria , in the working group of Bavarian teachers' associations (abl), which both their content and their appearance, z . B. to the Ministry of Culture and the press , coordinate.

In Bavaria, the organization of the association based on the type of school is contrasted with organizations such as the Education and Science Union (GEW) and the Bavarian Teachers' Association (BLLV), which are currently emphasizing a trade union or cross-school approach. The program is correspondingly different in key positions (multiple levels of education, transition criteria, teacher training).

Association magazine Das Gymnasium in Bayern

The association publishes the association magazine Das Gymnasium in Bayern ten times a year .
