history

In 1976/77 the Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium was founded by dividing the Dominikus-Zimmermann-Gymnasium . The DZG moved into its new school building on Platanenstrasse. The IKG (short for Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium) remained in the building on Lechstrasse and in the first school year only included grades 5 to 10 with a total of 580 students.

In 1979/80 the grammar school included all grades for the first time, and in 2000/01 the IKG celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The expansion and refurbishment of the IKG began in 2002/03 and was completed in 2003/04.

In 2012, the 55th Theater Days of the Bavarian grammar schools took place at the IKG .

Amok alarm

On May 6, 2009, an amok alarm was triggered at the Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium. A 12-year-old student told his class teacher about a masked man who is said to have carried a knife about 15 cm long . This teacher then notified the school's secretariat, who made a code announcement to lock each classroom and then notified the police . The alarm went off around 11:40 a.m. and was taken very seriously. 180 police forces, including the support command from Dachau, advanced; in addition, 10 ambulances were alerted. The neighboring retirement home was already being prepared for a provisional emergency room when the all-clear was finally given around 1:10 p.m. after the police had searched the school premises. In the following days, a crisis intervention team (KIT) from the BRK ( Bavarian Red Cross ) was available to the teachers and students .

Surname

The school takes its name from Ignaz Kögler (1680–1746), a well-known German Jesuit and missionary . As the son of a craftsman in Landsberg, Ignaz Kögler acquired a sound education and made a career as a Jesuit missionary at the imperial court in China, where he rose to be advisor to the emperor and head of the imperial observatory and was awarded the high honorary title of "Mandarin".

Foreign language sequence

The first foreign language for every student is English . From the sixth grade onwards, Latin or French are chosen. In the eighth grade, there is a separation between the scientific-technological and the linguistic, and recently also musical, branches. Spanish is possible as a third foreign language in the linguistic branch .

Additional offer

The IKG offers the following additional activities: Lower school choir and large choir, school orchestra and small orchestra, big band, pop music workshop, ten-finger writing on the computer keyboard, elective debating club, elective journalistic writing, elective theater, elective astrophysics and robotics, its own school beekeeping , school medical course and various sports courses such as football or basketball. Regional teacher training courses on astrophysics also take place at irregular intervals.
