The Anton-Bruckner-Gymnasium Straubing (abbreviated: ABG ) is one of four high schools in the city of Straubing in Bavaria . As a high school for music and economics, it has a unique selling point in the Straubing school landscape thanks to its training courses.
history
The high school originally emerged from a teacher training college founded in 1824 .
By royal decree of September 4, 1823, a teachers 'seminar was set up in the Straubing Jesuit College on November 1, 1824, which was expanded in 1833 with the construction of a teachers' house. In 1843 the Ministry of School Affairs approved the relocation to the former Canons' Monastery of St. Jakob in Seminargasse. In 1924, the six-class teacher training institute, as the seminar was now called, was temporarily elevated to a university, so that Straubing briefly became a university town.
In 1935, the training of elementary school teachers was relocated to state universities, and the teacher training institute was converted to the German Advanced School in Straubing , which, with its initially 240 students, was also known as the German Secondary School under construction .
After the Second World War , in 1953, pupil and teacher training were briefly merged again in a state teacher training institute with a secondary school . But as early as 1956 the two were separated again, and teacher training was to be relocated to Regensburg . In 1958, the State Ministry for Education and Culture approved the construction of what is now the German Gymnasium on Stadtgraben. At the same time, the student dormitory in Seminargasse should also be repaired. The new building was inaugurated and put into operation in 1961.
By decree of the State Ministry for Education and Culture of November 26, 1965, the German Gymnasium was given the name Anton-Bruckner-Gymnasium . The state school home, which is attached to the grammar school, was rebuilt at the Wittelsbacher Höhe between 1966 and 1969. At that time, the home director was Alfred Dick , who later became the Bavarian Minister for the Environment , and Georg Hirte became the headmaster in 1968. In 1974, the construction of the grammar school began at the Wittelsbacher Höhe, which was ready for the 1976/77 school year. In 1979 it was decided to dissolve the previously operated seven-year short form of the grammar school. The music branch of the grammar school produced several successful participants in the Jugend musiziert competition. In 1984 Manfred Volk succeeded Georg Hirte as headmaster.
In 1991 the state school home was closed. In 1998 Walter Wolf († 2007) took over the management of the school, who was replaced by Werner Schäfer in 2003. In 2004 the grammar school hosted the 48th theater days of the Bavarian grammar schools . Rudolf Reinhardt ran the school from 2011 to February 2017. As part of the introduction of the G8, a cafeteria was built as well as an extension that contains additional classrooms. A second extension with six class and course rooms was completed in 2016 using solid wood. Eva Huller has been the principal of the Anton-Bruckner-Gymnasium since April 2017.
A study seminar for the subjects German, English, history, geography, sport (female) and economics has been set up at the school.
classes
Music high school
In the musical branch, special emphasis is placed on the subjects of music and art. Music is a core subject in all grades, learning to play an instrument is mandatory. In addition, the students can make music as an elective in a wide variety of ensembles. In addition, the subject of art has been strengthened in the timetable for the intermediate level.
In addition to numerous instrumental ensembles, solo instrumentalists and vocal soloists, the large ABG choir has been shaping the cultural life of Straubing for years. The regular concerts (Lions concert, spring concert, concerts of high school graduates, etc.), musicals and study trips by the high school choir (since 2006 under the direction of Stefan Frank) made the school known nationwide, including abroad. The choir trips took the students to Romania, France, Hungary, Italy, Croatia and Belgium, among others.
Economics high school
The focus in the economic branch lies in the economic and legal areas as well as on the profile subjects of business informatics and social studies.
Through cooperation with companies, the pupils can also deepen the knowledge acquired in the classroom in practice during internships and excursions.
