The Stage Metronom Theater (previously TheatrO CentrO) at CentrO Oberhausen is a venue for musicals in the " Neue Mitte " Oberhausen .

history

The musical theater was built in the form of an arena from November 1998 to September 1999 for 30 million euros and was equipped with 1,807 seats.

The eye-catching roof is modeled on a dragon's head. The venue for the musical Tabaluga & Lilli was designed by Peter Maffay , which was to be performed over the long term. It premiered on September 24, 1999. Despite a revision in early 2001, the curtain fell on June 30, 2001.

From April 4 to June 30, 2002 and September 16 to December 31, 2002, the musical FMA Falco meets Amadeus was played, as was the first production Tabaluga, but only with moderate visitor numbers.

On August 1, 2005, the theater was taken over by Stage Entertainment Germany , extensively rebuilt within 14 weeks for around 20 million euros, which required a redesign of the foyer and the theater hall (new and additional seats were installed so that the number of seats rose to 1830), the backstage area, as well as an installation of a “stage club” and a newly designed cash desk. After a public search for a new name for the former "TheatrO", it was renamed Metronom Theater . In June 2015, after a two-year planning phase, extensive renovation work began on the roof structure. The old green membrane was exchanged and replaced with a silver membrane.

From March 11, 2007 to October 4, 2008, the theater was a performance venue for a sub-ensemble of the Blue Man Group , which at that time was also performing in Berlin and the Apollo Theater in Stuttgart .

In October 2019 it was announced that after the end of the musical Tanz der Vampire in March 2020 no further musicals will be performed in the Metronom Theater. The background to this is that only the musicals Tarzan and Tanz der Vampire made a profit. All other musicals presented in the Metronom Theater earned less than the production costs.
