Thekla Mathilde Charlotte Schneider (born June 19, 1854 in Ravensburg , † March 10, 1936 in Friedrichshafen ) was a German writer.

Life

The daughter of a Ravensburger lawyer attended two Catholic schools, first the school of the Institute of School Sisters ( Klösterle ) in Ravensburg, later the educational institution of the Sisters of Christian Love in Constance. She then moved to Stuttgart, where she lived with her grandfather, the doctor and chief medical officer Leopold Sokrates von Riecke , who promoted her literary ambitions. Through the mediation of the theology professor Bernhard Schäfer, whom she had met in Ravensburg, the philosopher Christoph Bernhard Schlueter , a friend of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff , became aware of her and entered into an exchange of letters with her. In 1881 Schlüter wrote a benevolent preface to Schneider's first volume of poetry. On a trip to Münster , Thekla Schneider visited the aged Schlüter, where she also met the writer Antonie Jüngst . For a long time Schneider was on friendly terms with Droste's nieces, Hildegard and Hildegunde von Laßberg (the daughters of Joseph von Laßberg ). She later lived in Friedrichshafen, and from 1904 back in Stuttgart. She died in Friedrichshafen.
