Theni Allinagaram is a municipality in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It was created by merging Theni (also: Teni ; Tamil : தேனி Tēṉi [ ˈt̪eːni ]) and Allinagaram . According to the 2011 census, Theni Allinagaram had around 94,000 inhabitants. The city is the administrative seat of the Theni district .

Theni Allinagaram is located in southwest Tamil Nadu near the border with the neighboring state of Kerala in the Kambam Valley surrounded by the foothills of the Western Ghats . The Theniyar River flows through the city and joins the Vaigai River a few kilometers later . The next largest city is Madurai 75 kilometers east. Theni Allinagaram is located on one of the most important transport links between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the national highway NH 49 , which crosses the Western Ghats from Rameswaram via Madurai and leads to Kochi . Theni Allinagaram is connected to the railway network via the Madurai – Bodinayakkanur railway. In early 2011 the railway traffic was discontinued, by the distance from meter gauge to the Indian broad gauge switch.

95 percent of the population are Hindus , 3 percent are Muslims and 2 percent are Christians . As in all of Tamil Nadu, the main language is Tamil, which is spoken by 84 percent of the population as their mother tongue. 14 percent speak Telugu and 2 percent speak Kannada .
