Theodoor Gerard van Lidth de Jeude also: Theodorus Gerrit van Lidth de Jeude (born July 8, 1788 in Tiel , † December 23, 1863 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch zoologist.

Life

Theodoor Gerard was born as the son of the then mayor Cornelis Philip van Lidth de Jeude (born April 11, 1744 in Tiel; † February 27, 1830 there) and his wife Anna Margaretha van Ee (born February 12, 1750 in Utrecht; † May 28 Born in Tiel in 1832. After passing through exemplary institutions, he enrolled on September 22, 1806 as a student of philosophy and medicine at the University of Utrecht . On February 26, 1811, he continued his studies at the University of Leiden . After working as a doctor at a Utrecht hospital in 1814, Lidth de Jeude was appointed professor of anatomy and physiology at the Athaneum in Harderwijk on October 16, 1815 . Then he received an honorary doctorate in natural sciences on November 23, 1815 at the Utrecht University. On June 13, 1818, he received a call as associate professor of animal science at the University of Utrecht, which task he began on January 21, 1819 with a treatise on the Dutch naturalist Jan Swammerdam entitled De Joanne Swammerdamio egregii historiae naturalis cultoris exemplo .

On July 30, 1820, he was appointed associate professor of veterinary medicine and director of the Imperial Veterinary School in Utrecht, which he assumed on December 10, 1821. On July 8, 1826, he was released from his management duties, but remained at the institution as a teacher until January 1, 1851. In addition, on June 30, 1828, Lidth de Jeude was appointed professor of zoology from the University of Utrecht, which he assumed on June 23, 1829 and his introductory speech on June 28 of the same year, De historiae naturalis imprimus zoologiae studio tamquam actilissomo et suarissimo omnibus bonarum articum culturibus praeses tem academiae civibus maximopere commandando held. In his capacity as a Utrecht university lecturer, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1833/34 . In October 1858 he retired from his professorship and died five years later at his last place of work.

Lidth de Jeude was married twice. His first marriage was on July 15, 1813 in Tiel with Sara Jacoba Johanna Römer (born October 19, 1793 in Utrecht, † September 16, 1835 in Zoelen). His second marriage was on November 23, 1836 in Utrecht with Johanna Elisabeth Ledeboer (born June 11, 1802 in Haastrecht, † November 12, 1865 in Utrecht), the daughter of Cornelis Ledeboer and Aegidia Okhuijsen. No children are known from either marriage.
