The Theodor-Heuss-Brücke connects the Essen districts of Heisingen and Byfang as a road bridge . It leads the federal highway 44 over the Ruhr . In doing so, it crosses the northern part of the Heisinger Ruhraue nature reserve .
history
The Theodor-Heuss-Brücke-Bridge was named in April 1982 after the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany . From the 1970s to 2009 it was part of the federal highway 227 , which was upgraded to the motorway in this section on January 1, 2010.
Technical specifications
The Theodor-Heuss-Brücke is divided into a southern and a northern pure road bridge, with the northern bridge having a total length of 583.93 meters and the southern one having a length of 605.81 meters. These girder bridges have pillars and abutments made of reinforced concrete that support a panel made of prestressed concrete .
The bridge board with a total width of 31 meters is located at a height of between 2.2 and 3.3 meters, with 12.75 meters wide, two-lane lanes in each direction. The span of the entire bridge varies between 12.98 and 87.06 meters.
