Location of the Theodor-Körner-Kaserne in Lower Saxony

The Theodor Körner barracks is the last used by former three army - barracks in Lüneburg ( Niedersachsen ). It was handed over to the German Armed Forces by the British Army on the Rhine in 1958 . Today (2014) around 1000 soldiers are stationed here. As one of the first barracks of the Bundeswehr, it has a large day care center , a day-care center for the children of the soldiers.

location

The barracks are located on Bleckeder Landstrasse in the eastern part of the city. The barracks are also connected to the track network of the Lüneburg industrial and port railway . Today's Lüneburg airfield used to belong to this barracks as an air base .

Namesake

The barracks is named after the German poet Theodor Körner (1791–1813), who became known for his patriotic poems and songs. Through his participation as a war volunteer in the liberation wars of 1813/14 in the Lützow Freikorps , his work, like his poetry, became a model for the patriotic forces in Germany. His popularity certainly results from his untimely death on August 26, 1813 in a battle near Gadebusch .
