Goldener Reiter is a song by the Neue Deutsche Welle by Joachim Witt . It was released on his first solo album Silberblick in 1980 and was released as a single in May 1981.

content

In the song, Witt slips into the role of a person who has apparently been admitted to a psychiatric clinic because of severe schizophrenia . In May 2014, Witt stated in a radio interview that the inspiration for the song came from the 1979 film The Electric Rider , in which the main character wears a glowing yellow uniform.

In Completely detached - 40 Years of the New German Wave from Sat.1 in 2016 , Witt said that the song describes a criticism of capitalism ( “Protest song against the rampant capitalism with all its hypocrisy and this is how the text was conceived and created.” ). He wrote the song with English lyrics as a member of the Duesenberg band , but withheld the song and finally released it in German on his solo album Silberblick .
