The Theodor Storm Society is a literary association that aims to convey a contemporary image of the poet Theodor Storm and to keep his literary work alive. The writings of the Theodor Storm Society have been published as the publication organ since 1952.

history

The Theodor Storm Society was founded in 1948. It consists of around 1200 members from around 20 countries. In 2016, the society received the Hartmut Vogel Prize for literary communication from the Working Group on Literary Societies and Memorials (ALG).

Philipp Theisohn has been president since September 2015, Dieter Lohmeier is vice-president , and Christian Demandt is secretary and head of the Storm Center. Other board members are Gideon Haut (head of the Heiligenstadt Literature Museum), Malte Stein, Valérie Leyh, Uwe Schmitz (Mayor of Husum) and Roman Mulke (accounting officer).

The company is based in the Theodor Storm House in Husum . The Storm Society is a member of the Working Group of Literary Societies and Memorials .

Storm Museum

The Storm Museum is maintained in Husum Wasserzeile 31, the house that the poet lived from 1866 to 1880 .

Storm center

Since 2006 the Storm Center has linked the museum in the Storm House with the research library and the Storm Archive. One focus of the archive is the manuscript collection, which includes drafts, manuscripts and letters as well as other family documents. The research library contains more than 6,000 volumes of publications by and about Storm. The picture archive has around 10,000 pictures, including originals. A collection of records, audio cassettes and video tapes completes the inventory.

Storm meeting

The Storm Conference takes place in Husum once a year, usually around Theodor Storm's birthday on September 14th. In 2020 this should take place from 4 to 6 September take place.

Theodor Storm Prize of the city of Husum

In cooperation with the city of Husum, the Theodor Storm Prize, endowed with 8,200 euros, is awarded every four years to those whose work has particularly honored Theodor Storm's great achievements as an artist, as a “poetic realist”. The previous award winners were: David Jackson (1998), Gisela Mott-Dreizler and Reinhard Scheuble (2002), Malte Stein (2006), Christian Demandt and Jochen Missfeldt (2010) and Tilmann Spreckelsen (2014). The last award was in 2018 to Frank Düwel for his Storm theater STORM - the sea - the spirits - YOU .

Writings of the Theodor Storm Society

The writings of the Theodor Storm Society , the publication organ of Storm research, have been published once a year by Boyens Buchverlag since 1952 .

Storm correspondence

Various correspondence has been published since 1969 in collaboration with the Erich Schmidt Verlag .

Husum contributions to Storm research

These publications on Storm research have been published together with Erich Schmidt Verlag since 1999. Twelve volumes have been published so far.
