The KMG Klinikum Sondershausen is an acute hospital based in Sondershausen in Thuringia in the Kyffhäuserkreis and a hospital with a regional (intermediate) care contract. It belongs to the corporate group of KMG clinics from Brandenburg.
history
The then Prince Karl Günther von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen laid the foundation stone for today's hospital on May 5, 1886 with the donation of the "Bellevue to the City" site, on which the new " State Hospital " was to be built. After a year and a half of construction, it was opened on October 28, 1887 with four employees and 42 beds. Between 1919 and 1921, the hospital was expanded to the east, which was accompanied by more bed capacities as well as an operating room , an X-ray machine and a laboratory. From 1936 to 1938, the hospital was further expanded with the construction of a farm building with a laundry and kitchen .
At the end of the Second World War, the hospital and the farm building were hit in the air raid on Sondershausen on April 8, 1945 , and some of them were badly destroyed, so that in 1945 and 1946 the focus was on removing the damage to the main building and farm building and resuming operations . It was not until 1965 that the reconstruction of the ward block began, which was completed on November 6, 1967, after a construction period of a good two years. In the same year that the ward house was completed, the construction of a boiler house and numerous reconstruction and renovation work began .
Over the years the buildings were rebuilt, so that between 1992 and 1996 they could specialize in the construction of an extension. This ultra-modern complex was officially handed over on January 9, 1997 by the then Thuringian Prime Minister Bernhard Vogel . On January 1, 2003, the German Red Cross took over the hospital, giving it the name “DRK Hospital Sondershausen”. The most recent renovation of the ward block was carried out in the years 2009–2011. In 2018, the DRK non-profit hospital company Thuringia Brandenburg mbH applied for insolvency proceedings at the district court of Mühlhausen due to payment difficulties. On March 18, 2019 announced that the hospitals of the previous carrier in Bad Frankenhausen, Sondershausen , Sömmerda and Luckenwalde by the KMG clinics to be transferred.
