Theodor Bauer (politician)

Julius Theodor Bauer (born December 23, 1858 in Stralsund ; † April 26, 1944 in Sondershausen ) was a German lawyer , minister of state and politician ( DVP ).

Bauer was born as the son of pastor Theodor Julius Bauer and his wife Franziska Dorothea (née Freund).

He attended high schools in Wiesbaden and Stralsund from 1868 to 1879. He then studied law and political science in Bonn and Leipzig for three years . The first legal state examination on October 14, 1882, followed until November 1887 as a trainee lawyer at the Stralsund District Court and in Kassel, interrupted by military service as a one-year volunteer . After the second state examination in April 1888, he moved to the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, where he was employed in the administrative service in Arnstadt , Sondershausen and Gehren and was appointed to the government council in October 1888. Between 1897 and 1899 Bauer was District Administrator in Gehren, then until June 1902 State Councilor in the Ministry of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and finally until November 25, 1918 head of the Ministry of the Interior. In 1917 he received the title of Real Privy Councilor .

In the Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , from the end of 1918, Bauer was a civil servant minister of state and head of the ministry and head of the department for the interior, justice and public education. He resigned on December 12, 1919 and was put on hold . In 1920 he became a member of the German People's Party. He was a member of the Thuringian state parliament from June 20, 1920 to December 7, 1929 and was initially 1st vice-president of the state parliament for about a year and from 1924 parliamentary group leader. From January 23, 1930 to August 25, 1932 he was an honorary state councilor for Sondershausen, a member of the government with no portfolio in the state government under the direction of Erwin Baum .

In 1932, Bauer was granted honorary citizenship of Sondershausen because he had campaigned in particular for the preservation of the special houses, the Loh Orchestra , the State Library, the University of Music and the State Theater. A grave of honor was erected for him in the Sondershäuser cemetery . Bauer had been married to Adele (née Petri, 1857–1848) since 1889. They had the sons Ernst and Werner and the daughter Hilda.
