Theodor Berck

Theodor Berck (born September 14, 1784 in Bremen , † February 17, 1850 in Bremen) was a lawyer and Senator from Bremen .

biography

Berck was the son of the businessman and senator Hermann Berck (1740–1816) and his wife Margarethe, b. Schacht (around 1756–1809).
He was married to Sophie Marianne Bremer (* 1788); both had five children.

From 1787 he attended the private schools of Madame Mohr and then of Mr. Hünerkoch. From 1799 to 1803 he was an illustrious student at the Bremen Cathedral School and until 1805 at the Paedagogeum and Gymnasium .
From 1805 he studied law at the University of Göttingen and from 1806 at the University of Heidelberg. In addition, studied medieval history from 1806. In Göttingen he received
his doctorate in 1808. jur.
Then in 1808 he went on an educational trip through Belgium and France. In 1809 he completed his legal studies in Göttingen.

He worked as a lawyer and notary in Bremen from 1809 . he also wrote and translated legal studies. From 1811 to 1813 he was active in the civic convention during the French period in Bremen . He ended his notary work around 1813. From 1818 to 1821 he was a public prosecutor.
From 1821 to 1849 he was a senator in the field of justice as successor to Johann Smidt . From 1826 he was also responsible for the prison system.

Berckstrasse in Bremen - Horn-Lehe was named after his father in 1794.
