Ernst Theodor Bleek (born February 17, 1833 in Bonn , † January 19, 1905 ) was a Westphalian local politician and long-time mayor of the East Westphalian city ​​of Minden . After the abolition of the fortress Minden, the development of the city fell into his tenure .

Life

Bleek studied law and began his professional career in 1862 as a court assistant. Just one year later he was appointed mayor of the city of Sobernheim in what is now the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1871 he moved to Lippstadt in the same position as mayor . From 1880 he was mayor of the East Westphalian city of Minden, whose lord mayor he became in 1883. He remained so for two terms of twelve years each. During his tenure, Minden developed rapidly after the fortress was closed and quickly grew beyond its city walls. During his tenure, Bleek represented the city of Minden in the Prussian mansion , to which he belonged from 1880 to 1903. From 1896 to 1904 he was also a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia for the constituency of Minden . Bleek was named a Privy Councilor . During his tenure, the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument was opened at Porta Westfalica , he accompanied Kaiser Wilhelm II from the Minden train station to the Porta and took care of security.
