Theodor Frank (banker)

Theodor Frank (* 1871 in Bad Dürkheim , † 1953 in Zurich ) was a German banker and bank manager .

Life

After an apprenticeship at a private bank in Karlsruhe, Frank first became an employee and later a partner in the Mannheim bank in Ladenburg . He later became a board member at Süddeutsche Disconto-Gesellschaft, a subsidiary of Disconto-Gesellschaft . In 1922 he was accepted into the circle of personally liable partners of Disconto-Gesellschaft. When Disconto-Gesellschaft merged with Deutsche Bank AG and other credit institutions in 1929 , he became a board member of Deutsche Bank.

In 1909 he married Margot Kaufmann; the couple had three daughters and one son. After residing in Mannheim, Heidelberg and later again in Manheim, the family moved to Berlin in 1922 . In July 1923, the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg awarded Frank an honorary doctorate in political science. In 1928 the Franks bought ten parcels on Schwielowsee . The Berlin architect Ernst Ludwig Freud built the Landhaus Frank there , "a comfortable weekend and summer house for the family, which at the same time should also offer a representative setting for the reception of work colleagues and business partners."

After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933 Frank was with his fellow board members also Jewish Oscar Wassermann dismissed from the Management Board of Deutsche Bank. In 1937 the Frank family fled first to Antwerp , then to Brussels . In 1942 Margot Frank was abducted by Nazi thugs in Cannes and later murdered. Theodor Frank survived the exile in modest circumstances in Nice ; He died on a visit to Zurich in 1953.
