Theodor Freiherr von Wrede

Theodor Freiherr von Wrede (born November 3, 1888 in Wandsbek ; † March 30, 1973 in Bonn ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in World War II .

Life

Baron von Wrede served as an officer in the First World War . After the war he was accepted into the Reichswehr . There he was a commander in various units. From the formation in March 1940 to mid-May 1940 he was in command of the 393rd Infantry Division , as well as for the forerunner unit, the 423rd Landesschützen Division. During the Second World War he led the 290th Infantry Division with interruptions from June 1940 to May 1942 as commander . In this position he was promoted to lieutenant general in March 1941.

On February 22, 1942, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross . In early 1942 he fought in the Demyansk Kessel Battle and was seriously wounded there in May 1942. He then no longer took up a military position. At the end of 1944 he was officially retired from the Wehrmacht.
