Theodor Gruschka

Theodor David Gruschka (born June 27, 1888 in Mährisch Kromau , † June 25, 1967 in Jerusalem ) was a Czech-Israeli doctor in the public health service .

life and work

Theodor Gruschka was born on June 27, 1988 in Mährisch Kromau. He completed his medical studies in 1912 at the German University in Prague with a doctorate . He then worked from 1914 to 1921 as an assistant at the local hygiene institute . From 1921 to 1937 he was the city physician of Aussig . From 1937 to 1939 he was head of the Department of Social Medicine at the Prague Ministry of Health.

Together with Arnold Holitscher and Ludwig Czech , Theodor Gruschka was active in the Association of German Social Democratic Doctors in the Czechoslovak Republic and in the International Association of Socialist Doctors .

In 1939 he emigrated to Palestine , where he was director of the Hadassah Municipal Hospital in Tel Aviv until 1944 . From 1944 to 1948 he headed the Immigration Health Service of the Jewish Agency . In 1948/49 he was head of the Department of Social Medicine of the Israel Ministry of Health. From 1949 until his retirement in 1958, Theodor Gruschka was professor of social medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .
