Theodor Köstlin , pseudonym Theodor Brandt , (born November 21, 1855 in Vienna , † February 12, 1939 in Stuttgart ) was a German actor , director and dramaturge .

The son of the German bridge engineer August Köstlin and Therese Schurz (1830–1872) and cousin of the state actor Reinhold Köstlin began studying at the Technical University of Vienna after leaving school , but soon switched to Alexander Strakosch (1845–1909) on At that time the Vienna Conservatory , where he trained in acting and speaking education. In the period that followed, Theodor Köstlin took his pseudonym “Theodor Brandt”, under which he was henceforth active.

He received his first engagement from 1878 to 1880 with Heinrich Laube at the Wiener Stadttheater and then moved to Berlin , where he worked for a few years at the Residenztheater there. In 1905 he returned to Vienna and took a job as a director at the Vienna Burgtheater . He then followed a call to the Weimar Court Theater , where he directed more than 187 performances from 1912 to 1915. Köstlin then took up the position of director at the Alten Schauspielhaus in Stuttgart until 1918 , before he took on an engagement as artistic director at the Deutsches Theater in Mährisch-Ostrau until 1920 . In 1922 he finally returned to Stuttgart, where two years later he initially belonged to the drama ensemble of Süddeutsche Rundfunk AG (SÜRAG) and from 1931 to 1933 took on the role of speaker.

Theodor Köstlin was married to the actress Helene Schüle (1860-1926), with whom he had the son Karl Köstlin (1886-1971). He started the same career as his father and became a Württemberg state actor , director and broadcaster. Among other things, Karl Köstlin worked as head of radio plays at SÜRAG during the same period as his father from 1925 to 1933. Karl Köstlin married the actress Emmy Sonnemann who, after her divorce from Köstlin in 1926, entered into a second marriage with Hermann Göring in 1935 .
