Theodor Müller (Romanist)

Theodor Müller (born March 9, 1816 in Clausthal , † April 14, 1881 in Göttingen ) was a German Romance and English studies.

Life

Müller came from a merchant family. Like his brother Karl, he studied at the University of Göttingen . There he received his doctorate in 1838 with the dissertation De Thuriorum republica . After spending time in France and England, he completed his habilitation in Göttingen in 1845. In 1852 he became the first double professor for French and English in Göttingen , first as an associate professor, from 1867 (after rejecting an offer to Gießen) as a full professor (Romance studies successor: Karl Vollmöller ).
