Viktor Bernhard Theodor Müller (born November 12, 1790 in Strelitz ; † July 23, 1857 in Hofwil ) was a German theologian and educator who worked mainly in Switzerland .

Life

Theodor Müller was the son of the teacher Friedrich Philipp Müller , who also did notarial business and was a copyist at the Neustrelitz consistory . After taking lessons at home, Theodor attended the community school and the newly founded Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz. As a primary school student, he gained his first educational experience as a private tutor in the Neustrelitz house of State Minister August von Oertzen . From Easter 1810 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Jena . In January 1811 he was one of the founders of the Landsmannschaft Vandalia .

In 1813, after passing his exams, he became a candidate for the ministry and returned to Strelitz. After the calls to arms in the spring, he initially reported for service in the Mecklenburg-Strelitz Hussar Regiment , but was not accepted for military service due to physical inadequacy . A service in the Lützow Freikorps did not come about for the same reason.

Like almost all candidates of his time, he worked as a tutor at Gut Lübbersdorf for two years . In 1815 he left Mecklenburg and went as a teacher and educator at the educational institution founded by Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg in Hofwil near Bern , where Ulrich Becker , Friedrich Kortüm, and Friedrich Kortüm from Mecklenburg were already active. He stayed here until the institution closed in 1848, with brief interruptions to study in Heidelberg and to public offices in Basel and Murten . In 1848 he took over the management of the Gladbach School of Education in Wabern near Bern .
