Theodor Piderit (born September 15, 1826 in Detmold ; † January 24, 1912 there ) was a German writer .

Life

Piderit studied medicine in Göttingen, Heidelberg and Berlin since 1846. Since 1847 he was a member of the Corps Saxonia Göttingen . Driven by the political situation in the Vormärz , Piderit went to Valparaíso , where he worked as a doctor for a long time. From 1863 he lived again as a writer in Detmold and Bielefeld.

Piderit has reported several times about his journey and his time as a general practitioner in Valparaíso. For example, in the book From Bremerhafen to Valparaiso, written in diary form . September 21, 1850 - January 15, 1851 and in things experienced and imagined from old and new times . Here he talks about his trip through Panama, New Orleans, Baltimore and Boston to a stopover in his hometown Detmold and Bielefeld where he married Anna Rose on September 1, 1860. The painter Theodor Mintrop recorded this relationship in drawings The Album for Minna . The letters sent from Sütterlin to his father from Valparaíso complete his picture of the young doctor abroad in the post-March . It also becomes clear here why he was drawn back to his native Detmold with his wife and children in 1863.
