Theodor Real
Theodor Real (born February 20, 1881 in Schwyz , † August 17, 1971 in Fonsorbes , authorized to reside in Schwyz) was a Swiss aviation pioneer and general staff officer .
biography
Real graduated from the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich with a degree in mechanical engineering . From 1906 to 1914 he worked as an instruction officer in the cavalry .
He attended August Euler's flight school in Darmstadt and received his Swiss flight certificate in 1911 . He carried out the first registered flight from abroad to Switzerland from Darmstadt to Basel . He became a member of the Aviation Commission in 1912 and played a key role in building up the Swiss Air Force from 1914 to 1916. He was then also their first commandant, but later resigned due to refusals of credit by the Federal Council .
From 1916 to 1922 he then worked as a personnel manager at Bally AG in Schönenwerd and from 1923 was a landowner in southern France.
Theodor Real was a general staff officer from 1915 to 1922 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1923 . In honor of Real, the barracks in Dübendorf bear his name ( Theodor Real barracks ).
