Theodor Schnitzler

Theodor Schnitzler (born April 1, 1910 in Düsseldorf ; † August 29, 1982 in Meerbusch ) was a Catholic liturgical scholar and mystagogical author.

From 1943 to 1960 Schnitzler was professor of liturgy, rites and rubricistics at the Cologne seminary. From 1960 to 1977 he was pastor at St. Aposteln in Cologne and had lectureships at the episcopal seminary of Essen-Werden (1962–1970), at the St. Lambert Study House in Lantershofen (1974–1981) and at the Catholic Theological Seminar of the Rhenish Westphalian Technical University of Aachen (1980). In 1977 he became head of the Archbishop's Liturgy School in Cologne. As a member of the working group for the reform of the Ordo missae within the Consilium for the implementation of the liturgical constitution, he was involved in the development of the new Eucharistic prayers as part of the liturgical reform decided by the Second Vatican Council .

Some of his books, in which he brought liturgy topics, especially Holy Mass and the veneration of saints , closer to lay Catholics , achieved large editions.
