Theodor Tappen (born June 25, 1835 in Langlingen , † March 22, 1898 in Goslar ) was a German lawyer and mayor .
Life
Theodor Tappen was born in Langlingen, southeast of Celle , in 1835 as the son of a pastor . He passed the Abitur at the Andreanum Gymnasium in Hildesheim and then studied law in Göttingen and Jena . Subsequently, from 1866 onwards, he worked at the Landdrostei and in the provincial finance office in Hanover . Tappen was appointed mayor of the city of Goslar, which belongs to the Kingdom of Prussia , in 1869 . He laid the foundations for a new flourishing of the city by promoting the improvement of schools, the restoration of the imperial palace and the connection of Goslar to the railway network. During Tappen's term of office, Kaiser Wilhelm I visited the building site of the Kaiserpfalz in August 1875. Tappen held the mayor's office until 1881, when he was appointed to the Prussian Ministry of Spiritual Education and Medical Affairs in Berlin as a Privy Councilor .
Tappen died in Goslar in March 1898 at the age of 62. The local Tappenstrasse was named in his honor .
