Theodor von Zabern (born February 15, 1771 in Blaesheim , † November 5, 1832 in Mainz ) was a Mainz printer and publisher . He founded the still existing publishing house Philipp von Zabern .

Life

From 1797 von Zabern worked as a factor (technical and organizational manager) in the printing company Societas typographica ( Typographical Society ) of Johann Andreas Crass. In 1802 Crass sold the printing company and its book warehouse to von Zabern, who also took over the privilege of being a prefecture printer. The printer and publisher were now called Buchdruckerei Theodor von Zabern on Bischofsplatz .

The greatest successes for Theodor von Zabern were the printing order for the files of the preliminary judicial investigation against the “Schinderhannes” Johannes Bückler and, in January 1812, the acquisition of the privilege to publish and print the Mainzer Zeitung in Mainz, France at that time .

While Mainz was part of the French Republic, von Zabern became a member of the Masonic lodge Les amis réunis . The Worms lodge Zum rebuilt Temple of Brotherly Love presented him with honorary membership of their lodge in 1812.

  • Victor von Zabern († after 1861?), Took over the publishing house, then Philipp von Zabern (1849–1902)
  • Karl Theodor von Zabern (1807–1862) took over the printing company
