Theodora Elisabeth Vollmöller , b. Mirus (born December 15, 1865 in Leisnig , † February 3, 1934 in Dresden ) was a German writer and women's rights activist .

Life

She was the daughter of the lawyer and Saxon court counselor Karl Adolf Mirus (1829–1907) and Auguste Wilhelmine Buhle (1839–1900). The mother was the descendant of a family of textile manufacturers in Poland and brought significant fortunes into the family. Theodora received her education from a governess and private tutor. The family's fortunes allowed her to travel extensively at a young age. In Gottfried's house in Tölz , which was owned by her parents, she became engaged to Karl Vollmöller on August 31, 1886 , at the time Professor of Philology in Göttingen. The marriage followed on January 18, 1887. This made her the sister-in-law of the social reformer Emilie Vollmöller .

In 1891 the family moved to Dresden, where they owned numerous properties from old Buhle's property. Vollmöller was socially committed, active in the field of Inner Mission and was particularly committed to working women and girls of their time. In Leisnig she founded the Augusta Home, where authors, teachers, shop assistants and other working women could spend the summer. Her husband and his brother Robert Vollmöller got involved in their home town of Ilsfeld after the fire disaster of 1904 for emergency aid and reconstruction, and in 1906 founded the nursing home Dorastift named after her there . In 1906 the brothers were made honorary citizens of Ilsfeld.

From 1910 to 1912 Vollmöller was the chairwoman of the “Regional Association for Christian Women's Service”. Vollmöller also held positions on the board of the “Association for clerks” and the “Friends of Young Girls” association. She published her writings under the name Dora Vollmöller. She was a close friend of the writer and women's rights activist Hedwig Dohm , Katia Mann's grandmother .

Vollmöller died in Dresden in 1934. Her grave is in the Trinity Cemetery .
