Theresian institution

The Theresian Institution ( en . : Teresian Association , abbreviation: TA; es . : Institución Teresiana , common abbreviation: IT ) is an association of believers in the Roman Catholic Church . It was founded in Spain in 1911 and recognized by the Holy See in 1990 . Its 4,100 male and female members are distributed in 34 countries worldwide, and the institution is a member of the UN liaison service to non-governmental organizations .

The founding of the association goes back to the now canonized priest Pedro Poveda Castroverde (1874-1936). On his initiative, believers form a community and feel in league with St. Teresa of Ávila (1515–1582), who is also the patron saint of Spain. In 1913 the teacher Josefa Segovia Marón (1891–1957) became his closest collaborator and the first general director of the Institución Teresiana, she continued the association after the death of the founder. She introduced Pope Pius XI. (1922–1939) proposed the new organization, which approved it in 1924 as Pia unio Primaria. On November 21, 1990, the Theresian Institution was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international association of believers under papal law.

Self-image

IT has set itself the task of promoting people on the platform of Christianity and conveying a just education of culture . This is supported by the preaching of the gospel and is based on Christian education . The members have qualified prior training and perform their tasks within their professions. They are involved in education and research , they work in social institutions, public institutions, in pastoral care and lead social programs on the most varied of levels.

On the XVII. General Assembly , Maite Uribe Bilbao was elected as the new General Director for the period 2012 to 2018. Membership in IT is based on a vocation , which requires special commitment from the members and a wide variety of fields of knowledge. The management of IT is the primary association, which consists of women, in which the heads of the local, regional, national and international affiliated institutions are represented. The TI has 4,100 members in 32 countries in Africa , Asia , Europe , the Middle East , North America and South America . A cultural council is affiliated with the TI , the headquarters of the primary association are in Madrid .

IT maintains several colleges and student residences around the world , including in Dublin , Santiago de Chile , Valencia , Madrid, Maipú (Chile) , Seville , Montevideo and near Alicante .
