Thomas Ayeko (born February 10, 1992 in Kapkorosoi , Bukwo District ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Thomas Ayeko gained his first international experience at the 2010 Cross Country World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he took 18th place in the junior ranking and won the bronze medal with the team. A year later he won the silver medal and again the bronze medal in the team classification at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbría . At the Junior African Championships 2011 in Gaborone he won the bronze medals over 5000 and 10,000 meters. In 2012 Ayeko qualified over 10,000 meters for the Olympic Games in London and took 16th place in the final in 27: 58.96 minutes.

In 2013 he took part in the World Championships in Moscow and finished eleventh over 10,000 meters. In 2014 he took part in the African Championships in Marrakech , where he finished seventh over 5000 meters and tenth over 10,000 meters. At the Commonwealth Games 2018 in the Australian Gold Coast , he competed over 5000 meters and finished fourth in 13: 54.78 minutes. Before that he won the bronze medal in the individual ranking at the African Cross Country Championships in Ech Cheliff . The IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2019 the 27-year-old in March occupied in Aarhus in seventh place and was world champion in the team standings.

In 2014 Ayeko became the Ugandan champion over 10,000 meters.
