Thomas Baum (born December 15, 1964 in Bad Muskau ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the Saxon state parliament .

Profession and Party

Thomas Baum attended the Polytechnic High School in Bad Muskau from 1971 to 1981 and then completed a dual training course with Abitur as a construction worker by 1984. After three years of military service with the NVA , he studied civil engineering at the University of Cottbus , graduating in 1991 as a graduate engineer . He then worked as a planning and road construction engineer for an engineering office in Kassel , for which he worked as an authorized signatory and branch manager in Erfurt from 1998 . In 2010 he moved to another office in Dresden in the same role .

Baum has been a member of the SPD since 2001. Since 2004 he has been a city councilor in Bad Muskau , and since 2014 district chairman of the SPD in the Görlitz district .

Baum lives in Bad Muskau.

Electoral offices

In December 2014, he replaced the resigned MP Stefan Brangs in the Saxon state parliament . There he was a member of the Committee on Economics, Labor and Transport and a member of the Petitions Committee. In the state elections in Saxony in 2019 , Baum got only 8.0% of the first votes in the constituency of Görlitz 1 and could not move into the state parliament again via list position 16 on the SPD state list.

Thomas Baum is a member of the Parliamentary Forum for Central and Eastern Europe eV, a non-partisan association of Saxon parliamentarians and leaders from business and society, which promotes cooperation between Saxon as well as Central and Eastern European actors from politics and administration, with the aim of promoting business, science, Support culture and social developments.
