Thomas Casper Gilchrist (born June 15, 1862 in Crewe , Cheshire, England, † November 14, 1927 ) was an American dermatologist .

biography

Thomas Caspar Gilchrist studied medicine at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, England. In 1890 he went to North America and was from 1897 professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland, College Park . In the same position he moved to Johns Hopkins Hospital , Baltimore in 1898 . 1907 awarded him the University of Maryland the honorary doctorate . He was president of the American Dermatology Association in 1909 .

Thomas C. Gilchrist published extensively in his specialties Acne Vulgaris , Erysipeloid , Experimental Research on Hives , Radiodermatitis , Porokeratosis , Skin Sarcomas, and Atrophy . In 1896 he first described blastomycosis , a fungal infection of the skin and lungs that is triggered by dimorphic fungi. It is named after him as Gilchrist disease (Gilchrist's disease), Gilchrist (Rixford) disease or Gilchrist's disease .
