Thomas Damgaard (born June 17, 1971 in Kalundborg ) is a former Danish professional boxer.

Amateur career

Thomas Damgaard competed in over 200 fights as an amateur and was Danish light welterweight champion in 1991 and Danish light welterweight champion from 1994 to 1997. In 1992 he won the Nordic Championships in Oslo .

He was a participant in the Junior World Championships in 1989 in Bayamón (Nl in the round of 16 against Ivan Robinson ), the European Championships in 1991 in Gothenburg (Nl in the last 16 against Vasile Nistor ), the European Olympic qualification in France (Nl against Julien Lorcy), the World Championships in 1993 in Tampere (Nl in the last sixteen against Jyri Kjäll ), the 1995 World Championships in Berlin (Nl in the preliminary round against Armen Gevorkyan), the 1996 European Championships in Vejle (Nl in the last sixteen against Oktay Urkal ) and the 1997 World Championships in Budapest (Nl in the second preliminary round against Dorel Simion ).

Professional career

In 1998 he switched to the pros and won nine build-up fights, including against former American and Commonwealth Champion Steve Larrimore and Narciso Valenzuela, who boxed for the 1996 WBO World Championship. On November 27, 1998 he won with a tKo victory in the twelfth round against the Spaniard José Berdonce, the European Championship ( EBU ) in the light welterweight division. This was followed by further victories, including against ex- WBA world champion Khalid Rahilou , ex- IBF / WBO world champion Greg Haugen and ex-IBF world champion Philip Holiday .

On November 3, 2000 he won on points against Alessandro Duran and was thus also European champion (EBU) in the welterweight division. He also remained undefeated in his following 15 fights. The defeated opponents included Rodney Jones (balance: 25-2), Freddy Rojas (50-2), Wilfrido Ruiz (29-6), Peter Malinga (27-6) and Rocky Martinez (40-11). On January 28, 2006 he lost in Atlantic City badly beaten by referee dropping out in the sixth round (tKo) against Arturo Gatti . He finished his boxer career in March 2007.
