from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Americus Erskine, 3rd Baron Erskine (born May 3, 1802 , † May 10, 1877 in Alderley Edge , Cheshire ) was a British nobleman and politician .

Life

His father was David Montagu Erskine, 2nd Baron Erskine ; his mother was Frances, daughter of the American General John Cadwallader. When his father died in 1855, he inherited his title and with it the right to a seat in the House of Lords .

More details are known about his death than about his life: he is listed as a legation clerk in Turin , Naples and Lisbon between 1824 and 1827 , but lived in Cheshire for most of his life . His last will was dated January 26, 1877. The burial took place after the transfer of the body on May 15, 1877 in Prestbury , Cheshire; the will was opened on July 10, 1877.

He had married Louisa, daughter of George Lewis Newnham, on May 12, 1830. The marriage remained childless; therefore, after his death, his younger brother John succeeded him as the closest living male relative in the title of Baron Erskine .
