Thomas Füri
Thomas Beat Füri (born July 22, 1947 in Bern ; † July 23, 2017 ) was a Swiss violinist and teacher at the Basel School of Music .
Life
Füri, son of a cellist and a violinist, studied music with his father Erich Füri and with Max Rostal at the Bern University of Music . He completed his studies with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School in New York. From 1973 to 1980 he was concertmaster in Koblenz , Lausanne and Basel . From 1979 to 1993 he was director of the Camerata Bern chamber music orchestra . From 1980 to 1991 he was a lecturer at the music academies in Winterthur and Zurich. From 1985 he was a standing violinist with the I Salonisti and worked with them in the film Titanic . In 1993 he was awarded the Music Prize of the Canton of Bern . From 1994 Füri was the founder and first violinist of the Aria Quartet .
He played a 1761 violin attributed to Giovanni Battista Guadagnini .
