Career highlights and awards

Alvin Craig Harper (* 6. July 1968 in Lake Wales , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of wide receiver . He played with the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL).

college

Harper played for the Tennessee Volunteers , the University of Tennessee team . With his team he won the Sugar Bowl against the University of Virginia in 1991 with 23:22.

professional

In 1991 he was committed in the first round in 12th place in the NFL Draft by the Cowboys. The team of cowboys was being established at the time. In 1989, Jerry Jones bought what was then the worst team in the NFL and signed Jimmy Johnson as the new coach . Both succeeded in gradually strengthening the team with young, success-hungry players. In addition, wide receiver Michael Irvin, who has been playing with the Cowboy since 1988, managed to overcome a cruciate ligament rupture . Together with Harper he formed an explosive receiver duo. Both players were extremely safe to catch, which made it difficult for the opposing defense to concentrate on a pass recipient.

Harper won the Super Bowl twice with the Cowboys - in the 1992/93 Super Bowl XXVII final against the Buffalo Bills with 52:17 and in the 1993/94 Super Bowl XXVIII final again against the Buffalo team with 30:13. In the two years of the Super Bowl win, Harper was able to achieve a total of 13 touchdowns in the regular season . After Michael Irvin, he was the Cowboys' most successful wide receiver during this period. For the 1995 season, Harper signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for four years. The contract was paid for with $ 10.6 million. The up to this point almost notoriously unsuccessful team from Florida hoped for an improvement in the attacking game through Harper, but were bitterly disappointed. Harper only got three touchdowns in Tampa in two years. During another year with the Washington Redskins , he only managed two pass catches. After a year out, he played again for the Cowboys in 1999, but was only used in two games. His attempt at the Memphis Maniax in the XFL in 2001 also brought him unsuccessful. He then ended his career.

Harper had a special identification mark on the field. Whenever a touchdown was scored, he put the ball over the crossbar in the style of a slam dunk.

Off the field

Harper was arrested in Maryland in 1999 for double car theft. However, he only received a suspended sentence for forging documents. The license plates were wrong.

Honors

Harper is one of the Dallas Cowboys All Stars.

Trainer

In 2005 Harper became a wide receiver coach for the NFLE team at Rhein Fire .
