In 2012 the Camerata Bern celebrated its 50th birthday. Twenty composers from home and abroad were commissioned to compose a short string orchestra piece that had to be suitable for a performance without a conductor. This resulted in compositions by Heinz Holliger , Jean-Luc Darbellay , Thomas Demenga , Daniel Glaus and the violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja .

For the anniversary, the ensemble also received fourteen instruments from the Brienz violin making school , made from Baroque models, from the thirteen Bern guilds, the civic community and the Hans and Verena Krebs Foundation .
