Thomas Flemming (born July 14, 1967 in Schlema ) is a former swimming athlete from the GDR who won two Olympic medals with the freestyle relay in 1988.

Flemming moved from Zwickau to SC Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1979 . In 1983 he won the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay at the European Junior Championships. After Flemming had finished second behind Sven Lodziewski in the GDR championships over 100 meters and 200 meters freestyle at the GDR championships in 1986 , he won his first international title at the 1986 World Swimming Championships in Madrid. The 4 x 200 meter relay won gold in the cast of Lars Hinneburg , Thomas Flemming, Dirk Richter and Sven Lodziewski, ahead of the relay teams from the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States. In 1987 Flemming won the 200-meter freestyle course at the GDR championship. At the European Championships in 1987 in Strasbourg, the GDR relay won the 4 x 100 meter freestyle with Dirk Richter, Thomas Flemming, Steffen Zesner and Sven Lodziewski. Over twice the distance, Hinneburg, Flemming, Zesner and Lodziewski won silver behind the relay from the Federal Republic. As fifth in the 200 meter freestyle, Flemming also achieved his best individual placement at international championships in Strasbourg.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, Flemming finished tenth in the 200 meter freestyle. The 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay made up of Dirk Richter, Thomas Flemming, Lars Hinneburg and Steffen Zesner won bronze behind the relay from the United States and the Soviet Union. Over the long distance, the GDR relay with Uwe Daßler , Sven Lodziewski, Thomas Flemming and Steffen Zesner took second place behind the US swimmers. Flemming won his last international medal in 1989 at the European Championships in Bonn. With Uwe Daßler, André Matzk , Thomas Flemming and Steffen Zesner, the GDR relay took third place on the long freestyle course, behind the Italians and the hosts.

For winning the relay medals in Seoul, Flemming was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. He also received this medal in 1986.
