In 2004 he became French junior champion in giant slalom.
Frey made his debut in the World Cup on February 7, 2004 in the giant slalom in Adelboden . In his first races, however, he never crossed the finish line and it was not until December 2, 2006 that he took his first World Cup points in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek as 30th. The following races remained unsuccessful until he surprisingly finished 15th in Adelboden on January 5th, 2008. Furthermore, he could only rarely qualify for the second round. He had to end the 2009/2010 season at the end of December due to an injury. In the 2010/2011 season , Frey was able to score points in several World Cup races for the first time. In addition to two twelfth places in the giant slaloms in Alta Badia and Hinterstoder , he achieved his best World Cup result to date with tenth place in the Super-G in Hinterstoder. Also in the European Cup, the 2010/2011 season was his most successful to date with sixth place in the giant slalom ranking and eleventh place in the overall classification. At his first World Cup in 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was 25th in the Super-G and 33rd in the giant slalom.
In the 2011/2012 season , Frey only won World Cup points once in 20th place in the Giant Slalom in Alta Badia . In the European Cup, he celebrated his first victory in the giant slalom in Levi at the beginning of the 2012/2013 season .
