Thomas Gambke (born October 16, 1949 in Rimsting ) is a German manager, entrepreneur and politician. He is a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party and was a member of the German Bundestag from 2009 to 2017 .

Life

Thomas Gambke was born in Rimsting am Chiemsee (Bavaria). Thomas Gambke is married with three children and now lives in Hamburg.

Education and scientific activity

Attendance at school in Bonn and Gehrden near Hanover; 1968 Abitur After 18 months of military service, Gambke studied physics in 1979 at the Technical University (today TU) Darmstadt (graduation as Dipl.-Phys.). From 1976 to 1981 Gambke worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Solid State Physics at the TH Darmstadt. In 1981 Gambke received his doctorate with a thesis on the electron spin resonance of rare earths in intermetallic compounds . With a research grant from the German Research Association, Gambke continued his scientific work in solid state physics at the University of California in San Diego .

Industrial activity

In 1982 Gambke returned to Germany, initially as a technology consultant at the VDI technology center in Berlin . In 1984 Gambke started at the Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen., today's SCHOTT AG , initially as head of the “Thin Films” department in research and development. In 1990 he took over the commercial management of the SCHOTT plant in Landshut . As head of the "Electronic Packaging" division, he was involved in setting up subsidiaries in the Czech Republic , Singapore , China and the USA . As spokesman for the management of SCHOTT Electronic Packaging Holding GmbH, Gambke was responsible for this business. In 2007, he gave up his operational tasks at SCHOTT Gambke founded MSG Lithoglas GmbH, first in Berlin and then in Dresden, and is now a member of the advisory board of this company.

Political career

After joining the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party, Gambke was chairman of the Landshut district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen from 2006 to 2010. In 2008 Thomas Gambke was elected to Landshut's city council. In the city council he was a member of the environmental senate and administrative advisory board of the municipal utilities. In the spring of 2011, Thomas Gambke resigned from Landshut's city council. Since 2005 Gambke has been a member of the Bavarian State Working Group Economy & Finances of the Greens, from 2008 to 2013 he was the spokesman for this working group.

In the 2005 Bundestag election he ran as a direct candidate in the Landshut constituency . He received 6.7% of the first votes. 8th place on the Bavarian state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen was not enough for entry into the Bundestag . For the 2009 Bundestag election , Gambke ran again in the Landshut constituency and improved to 10.2% of the first votes. and was able to move into the German Bundestag with the improved result of the Greens (10.7% of the second votes in the Bund). In the 17th legislative period, Gambke was a full member of the Bundestag's finance committee and of the study commission on “Growth, Prosperity, Quality of Life”. In the Finance Committee, he was rapporteur for his group on corporate taxation, international taxation and VAT. In addition, Gambke took over the chairmanship of the ASEAN parliamentary group of the German Bundestag. In 2012 Gambke was elected as the representative of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group. In 2013 Gambke moved back into the German Bundestag. In addition to unchanged tasks in the finance committee, Gambke was a full member of the committee for economy and energy as well as the subcommittee on regional economic policy and ERP economic plans in the 18th legislature of the German Bundestag. There he was rapporteur for his group on SME policy and the craft sector. He did not run again for the 2017 federal election .

Green business dialogue

In the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party, Gambke pushed ahead with various initiatives aimed at intensifying and perpetuating the dialogue between entrepreneurs and green politics. For example, he initiated the “Green Business Dialogue” from the “Sustainable Enterprises Discussion Group” (GNU) formed in the parliamentary group in the 18th legislature of the German Bundestag. On December 14, 2018, the Green Business Dialogue was founded as an association in Berlin. Gambke was elected as spokesman for the board. The self-declared aim of the Basic Business Dialogue is to intensify the exchange between German business and the Green Party.

Others

Thomas Gambke was involved in founding “Bürgerenergie Isar e. G. ”took part in April 2012 and was deputy chairman of the cooperative's supervisory board until 2015. Gambke was a member of the Petra Kelly Foundation in Munich and on the board of trustees of the Landshut University of Applied Sciences. As a member of the Bundestag, Gambke had campaigned for the implementation of supply-oriented local public transport.
