Thomas Gobel (born September 8, 1965 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1984/85 he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of 13, Thomas Gobel was accepted into the children's team (age group 12/13) of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. From 1982 to 1983 he played for FC Carl Zeiss in the junior league of the GDR Football Association (DFV) . For the DFV, Gobel also played 16 international matches with the GDR junior national team during the same period . After the junior league was discontinued in 1983, the junior teams started from the 1983/84 season on as the second team of the respective senior division representative in the third-class district league . With FC Carl Zeiss Jena II, Thomas Gobel became district champion in 1984 and rose to the second-rate GDR league . For the 1984/85 season Gobel was nominated for the 2nd team, for which he completed 16 GDR league games. He was always used as a defender, but played on both the right and left side. On the 22nd matchday he scored his only GDR league goal with the final score of 2-2 in the game FCC II - BSG Glückauf Sondershausen . In addition, Gobel was also used with the first team in six league games. He played his first game in the major league at the match on the 13th match day between FCC and Dynamo Dresden . In the 4-0 win for Jena, he was substituted on for midfielder Andreas Krause in the 86th minute . After two more short appearances, three league games followed, in which Gobel was in the starting line-up and completed 90 minutes twice.
