Thomas Hartmann (dancer)

Thomas Hartmann (born November 6, 1952 in Saalfeld ; † February 23, 2019 in Zwickau ) was a German choreographer and dancer .

Life

Born in Thuringia, Hartmann studied dance at the Palucca School in Dresden , after having previously been active in a children's dance group in Saalfeld. From 1970 to 1993 he worked as a dancer, solo dancer, choreographer, ballet master and ballet director at the Semperoper . Since 1993 he has been working as a freelancer. Guest engagements have taken him to Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Strasbourg, Mainz and Essen, among others. He taught at California State University, Long Beach , the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig and the Palucca School in Dresden.

From 2007 to 2009 he worked at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck . From 2009 to 2018 he was training director and choreographer at Theater Plauen-Zwickau . He retired there in January 2019. Hartmann died on February 23, 2019 at the age of 66.
