Thomas Hellmuth

Thomas Hellmuth (born November 19, 1965 in Gmunden ) is an Austrian historian , history and political didactic .

Life

From 1985 to 1991 he studied history, social studies and German philology in Salzburg ( graduation in 1991 ). He completed his doctoral degree (1991–1996) in history at the University of Salzburg with a doctorate in 1997. From 1997 to 2009 he taught at general secondary schools. From 2000 to 2011 he worked - partly in addition to his work as a teacher - as an assistant and senior scientist at the Institute for Modern History and Contemporary History at the University of Linz , where in 2009 he initiated the master's degree in "Political Education". In 2011 Hellmuth moved to a tenure track position (assistant professor) at the University of Salzburg, completed his habilitation in 2013 in the field of didactics of history and political education and received an associated professorship. Since February 2016 he has held the professorship for didactics of history at the Institute for History and the Center for Teacher Education at the University of Vienna .

His main research interests are theories and methods of didactics of history and political education (in particular subject-oriented history and political didactics), historical-political learning, history of historical and political learning, historical culture and identities, cultural history (including France) and local and regional history.
