Thomas Hennefeld (born July 29, 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Reformed pastor, state superintendent of the Evangelical Church HB and chairman of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Austria

Life

Thomas Hennefeld studied Protestant theology in Vienna and Zurich . In 1994 he completed his studies with a diploma thesis on the subject of attempting a theology of the foreign . In the same year he began his vicariate with Pastor Erwin Liebert in the Reformed City Church in Vienna. In 1997 he passed his parish exam and was ordained pastor by the then state superintendent Peter Karner .

In the spring of 1998 the parish in the Zwingli Church in Vienna elected him pastor. Thomas Hennefeld was editor-in-chief of the Reformed Church Gazette from 1999 to 2007 and has been the public relations officer of his church since 1998. In 2003 he became a deputy member of the HB Synodal Committee and on September 1, 2004 a member of the HB Oberkirchenrat. As successor to Wolfram Christoph Neumann , Thomas Hennefeld has been state superintendent since September 1, 2007 and thus holds the highest office in the HB Evangelical Church in Austria. In December 2018 he was re-elected for a second twelve-year term. Thomas Hennefeld has been chairman of the World Council of Churches in Austria since January 1st, 2017.

Hennefeld's main topics are Christian-Jewish dialogue , peace work in the Middle East , ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. In 2000 he was appointed pastor of the Jerusalem Association by the Oberkirchenrat A. and HB , who takes care of the contacts with the Protestant Christians in Jerusalem and Palestine . Hennefeld has been chairman of the ecumenical action group "Christians for the Peace Movement" since February 2011. Hennefeld represented his church at the General Assemblies of the World Reformed Federation in 2004 in Accra (Ghana) and in 2010 in Grand Rapids (Michigan, USA).

Thomas Hennefeld has been married to Maria Hennefeld, nee Steiner, since 1999.
