Thomas Huther

Thomas Huther (* 1956 in Miltenberg / Main) is a German graphic designer, artist and photographer.

Life

education and study

After graduating from high school, he began studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim. Originally it should boil down to the art of stage design, since Huther is interested in theater and art.

During his studies he did an internship with the photographer Gerhard Vormwald . This encouraged his interest in photography.

He then studied visual communication with Floris Michael Neusüss (photography) and Gunter Rambow (graphic design) at the Kassel University of Applied Sciences .

Huther discovered the artistic potential of Polaroid photos and took part in Polaroid exhibitions with his photos between 1982 and 1993. Some of his exhibits can still be seen in museums, such as the WestLicht in Vienna .

He started his career as a theater photographer with the premiere of Elektra (directed by Ruth Berghaus ) by Richard Strauss in Mannheim.

In 2017, two works by Huther appeared in the book Das Polaroidprojekt .

Theater photographer

He later moved to Kassel and initially studied at the Kassel School of Poster Art. When Manfred Beilharz came to Kassel in 1983 and began his artistic directorship at the Kassel State Theater , Huther applied as a theater photographer. After he was accepted, he also designed the posters together with Nina Steinmann, Head of Public Relations.

Graphic artist

After leaving the Staatstheater Kassel in 2004, he designed other posters with which he won many competitions. Some of his works hang in the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich , the Poster Museum Warsaw and the Musée de la Publicité Paris .

Private

He is married, has a son and lives with his family in Kassel.
