Thomas Ilka

Thomas Ilka (born April 2, 1965 in Essen ) is a German political official . From June 2011 to January 2014 he was State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Health . Before that, he was an association official in European politics. The General Association of German Insurers (GDV) announced in April 2014 that Ilka from May 12, 2014 as managing the region Europe / International Relations will direct.

Life and work

After studying economics in Kiel, Ilka worked from 1993 to 1999 for Paul Friedhoff, member of the Bundestag, in the FDP parliamentary group . In 1999 he began as a consultant for medium-sized business policy at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK). From 2001 to 2004 he worked as the office manager of the main management, most recently in the coordination of political contacts. From January 1, 2007, he was head of the "Europe, Energy and Consumer Policy" office area and is therefore also in charge of the DIHK representation in Brussels. He also represented the interests of the DIHK on the board of the European Movement Germany network . On June 6, 2011, he moved to the Federal Ministry of Health as permanent state secretary and successor to Stefan Kapferer . On January 7, 2014, Lutz Stroppe succeeded Thomas Ilka as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health.

Ilka is married to Zsuzsa Breier and has five children.
