Thomas Joseph Costello

Thomas Joseph Costello (born February 23, 1929 in Camden , USA , † February 15, 2019 in Syracuse ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Syracuse .

Life

Thomas Joseph Costello received after his philosophical and theological training on June 5, 1954 in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Walter Andrew Foery , Bishop of Syracuse, the priestly ordination . Among other things, he was superintendent for the Catholic schools in the diocese of Syracuse from 1960 to 1975 and from 1978 to 2009 vicar general.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 2, 1978 auxiliary bishop in Syracuse and titular bishop of Perdices . The Bishop of Syracuse, Francis James Harrison , ordained him episcopal on March 13 of that year ; Co- consecrators were David Frederick Cunningham , Old Bishop of Syracuse, and Francis J. Mugavero , Bishop of Brooklyn . On March 23, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

He was a participant in the Selma to Montgomery marches .
