Thomas König (born March 11, 1990 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ski racer and police officer . He was particularly successful in the slalom discipline and was a member of the squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) from 2007 to 2012 .
Career
In 2003, König won the slalom of the Trofeo Topolino , was Austrian student champion in combination in 2005 and competed in his first FIS races in December 2005 . In 2007 he was Austrian junior champion in combination in his age group Youth I. Since January 2008, the Carinthian competes in the European Cup and placed in the slalom on the Reiteralm for the first time in the top 30. Three weeks later he celebrated his first victory in an FIS race in the slalom in Sörenberg . At the Austrian Junior Championships in January 2009, König won the slalom and took second place in the Super-G. At the beginning of March he took part in the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and achieved fifth place in the slalom and 16th place in the downhill. At the end of March 2009 he achieved his greatest success so far when he won the Austrian championship title in combination.
At the European Indoor Championships in Amnéville on November 7, 2009, König came sixth. On January 6, 2010, he made his World Cup debut in the Zagreb Slalom , but failed in the first round. He also had to accept two failures in slalom and giant slalom at the 2010 Junior World Championship , which is why he had no result at this event. A week before the Junior World Championships, he achieved his best European Cup result so far with tenth place in Bansko's first slalom .
In January 2011, König began his four-year training as a top police athlete with the Federal Police . He did not take part in ski races during the entire winter of 2010/11 due to back problems. In the 2011/12 season, König started again in FIS races and several European Cup races, but remained without a result in the European Cup. In spring 2012 he lost the ÖSV squad membership.
