Thomas Kingston Critchley

Thomas Kingston Critchley CBE AO (born January 27, 1916 in Lahir de Melbourn , † July 14, 2009 in Sydney ) was an Australian diplomat.

Life

Tom Critchley was the son of Elizabeth "Glad" Kingston and George Critchley. After completing his training, he was Assistant Economic Adviser in the Department of War Organization on Industry from 1943 to 1944 and then headed the research department of the Far East Office of the British Information Ministry in New Delhi until 1946 and then the Economic Relations Department of the Department of External Affairs in Canberra until 1947 .

In 1949 he replaced Justice Kirby as the representative of the Australian government at the United Nations Committee for Indonesia (UNCI, United Nations Security Council Resolution 67 ). From 1951 to 1952 Malaya was the executive Australian Commissioner and was then appointed to the United Nations Commission for the Unification and Rehabilitation of Korea as representative of the Australian government until 1954 .

In 1954, Critchley took over the Pacific and Americas division of the Department of External Affairs in Canberra and was appointed commissioner of the Federation of Malaya a year later. After serving as High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur from 1957 to 1965 , he was employed as Senior External Affairs Representative of the Australian High Commission in London from 1966 to 1969.

Other stages in his career were his appointment as Ambassador to Bangkok (1969–1974), as High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea (1974–1975), as High Commissioner of the Commonwealth in Port Moresby (1975–1978) and finally as Ambassador Jakarta (1978–1975) 1981).

In 1981, Critchley was retired.
