Thomas Klein (philologist)
Thomas Klein (* 1957 in Siegen ) is a German Middle and New Latin philologist. He is professor for Middle and Neo-Latin Philology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg .
Life
Thomas Klein first studied English , philosophy and Catholic theology in Paderborn and Siegen , and from 1979 classical philology, Middle Latin philology and philosophy in Bonn . In 1985 he was with Otto Zwierlein with the dissertation Parrasios Epikedion on Ippolita Sforza. An example of creative appropriation, especially the Silven des Statius is doing his doctorate . From 1989 to 1990 he was a research associate at the Bonn Medieval Latin Seminar, between 1990 and 1992 Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Pembroke College of University of Cambridge . From 1992 to 1997 he was an assistant at the Chair for Medieval Latin Philology in Bonn ( Dieter Schaller ). There he completed his habilitation in 1997 for the subject of Middle and Neo-Latin Philology with a thesis on the French canon Guido von Bazoches .
After substitute professorships in 1997/1998 at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and 2001/2002 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he was appointed to the professorship for Latin Philology of the Middle Ages and Modern Times at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in 2002 . Klein's research focuses particularly on French Latin poetry in the High and Late Middle Ages. He is the author of several standard works on Middle Latin Philology and has been the editor-in-chief of the Middle Latin Yearbook since 2010 .
