Thomas Leitner

Thomas Leitner (born March 7, 1876 in Altmünster , † July 29, 1948 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter .

Leitner studied from 1893 at the Vienna Academy under Franz Rumpler . He was awarded the Rome Prize and made study trips to Italy and Dalmatia in 1905 and 1906 . In 1908 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus , where he regularly exhibited his works.

During the First World War he worked as a war painter in the Ortler region in 1916 , in Eastern Galicia in 1917 and in Capodistria and the surrounding area in 1918 .

In 1924 he had a collective exhibition in the Holbein Gallery in Vienna . From around 1911 Waidhofen an der Thaya became his adopted home, where he received honorary citizenship .

Of Emperor Franz Josef , his paintings were purchased "Danube landscape in the Wachau" and "mountain of peace". Emperor Karl also bought a painting from his hand.

His works can be found in the Belvedere in Vienna and in the Lower Austrian State Museum in St. Pölten .
